fābula gallery is delighted to present a solo show AT LEAST ANGELS WATCH OVER ME by Natasha Perova. In this project the artist addresses the concepts of femininity, vulnerability and resilience, read through the texts of Donna Haraway. As part of her analysis, the artist rethinks the concept of the cyborg as a tool of liberation that challenges traditional notions of female identity.
In 1988, Donna Haraway wrote a politicized cyber-femme punk utopia, where the figure of a cyborg becomes a symbol of rejection of rigid gender binaries and myths about salvation. Cyborg, a hybrid of man and machine, challenges the idea of the only true “female destiny.” The fusion of biological, mechanical, and cybernetic becomes the embodiment of a fantasy that can change our understanding of the female experience.
Natasha Perova refers to Haraway’s ideas and the cyborg in her interpretation is characterized by playfulness and sincerity, making them a figure both utopian and ironic.
The artist also explores the strategies of digital subcultures, where anonymity and virtual personalities allow you to go beyond the “natural”, creating new forms of identity. Natasha’s works — ironic, radical, and devoid of romanticization— exist at the intersection of biological and technological, challenging traditional narratives.
