The present work of Ángela has taken over the space, turning it into a living environment conducive to gestate the birth of a presence, to say the least, disturbing. The material operation is completely focused on giving body and form to an anomalous being, a different existence, a snake that rises in search of a sign: the threshold of an encounter. It is a being for which one can fantasize many names in order to make it enter our understanding but estrangement is its most faithful nature, therein lies its power and its territory.
Accepting the space and knowing how to listen to it were the basic principles of this process. This is a lucid and minimalist way of deconstructing the excessive rationality that dominates many artistic projects in search of success and recognition. Contrary to that aspiration, what is here is the symbiosis between sensibility and critical imagination; the recovery of the sensorium of human existence as absolute otherness without hierarchy. The opening towards a sculptural attitude that generates a world by letting itself be involved with the space and allowing the imagination to operate again as the starting point of artistic thought.
Thus a system of work and a rhythm of collaborations were configured that contributed to the growth of this strange creature of damp clay. Indeed, its body emerged, grew and settled, absorbing the collective work of the hands of others. However, this ultra-natural being obeys entirely to the gentle and affective modeling of the artist’s hands. From there it was born and from there it will continue its path. Ángela achieves with great sensitivity and intensity of work to give rise to an encounter with what she calls “geological fiction”. A proposal that has left open a dialogue with the poetics of the subsoil, the temporal scales of matter, the potential for change of bodies, the frontiers imposed on nature, and the world-fiction that exists between things that have a world only through the work of art.
In one way or another, all this installation takes place in the manifestation of something alive -the encounter- in which a dividing line as implacable as it is immaterial opens up, a vibrational wave that accompanies and surrounds our presence. Here, the intruders are the individuals, our rational system of ordering and categorization, our faces and our eyes, on this side of the dividing line we are the things that have human form.
