Gallery Weekend Bratislava Set to Kick Off, Marking a Major Milestone for the City’s Art Scene

The scene is Bratislava, Slovakia, with the opening weekend fast approaching, Gallery Weekend Bratislava is set to launch its highly anticipated first edition from June 5–7, inviting the public to experience a vibrant, city-wide celebration of contemporary visual art.

As the first initiative of its kind in the historical city center of Slovakia’s capital city, the event brings together 10 private commercial galleries within walking distance of one another. This collaborative format offers visitors a rare opportunity to hop from one gallery to the next and explore a major portion of the city’s gallery scene. From the newly developed SkyPark area of Staré Mesto, one can walk from Dot. Contemporary to White & Weiss Gallery in around 5 minutes. Less than five minutes further down Grösslingová finds you right between the newest, freshest and oldest, most prestigious galleries in town, nico bernath and Gandy Gallery. Want to start from the other end? Just under the old castle wall on the narrowest street in Bratislava you will find Umrian Gallery and just two minutes up from there you will find the first ever GWB Pop up, brought to us by Station Gallery.

Across three days, audiences can discover curated exhibitions showcasing a dynamic mix of local and international artists. Viewers can take in exhibitions from established artists such as Austrian photographer Tina Lechner at FOG Gallery, legendary Slovak artists Jana Želibská at Gandy Gallery and Hungarian-based painter Alexandre Tinei at Steinhauser Gallery, as well as “young blood” artists like Paula Gogola & Olbram Pavlíček at nico bernath or Jakub Strýček & Denis Braun at Atelier XIII, the range is impressive for such a geographically tight group of galleries. If you are looking for incredible works from the 19-21st century then Bratislava’s Auction House, SOGA’s Summer Auction, has you covered.

In addition to exhibitions, the weekend’s program includes commented tours led by artists and art professionals, as well as walk and talk guided routes designed to encourage visitors to move between galleries while engaging more deeply with the works on view. These shared experiences aim to create an open and engaging atmosphere for collectors, art enthusiasts, and the wider public.

The launch of Gallery Weekend Bratislava signals a new chapter for the city’s cultural landscape, reinforcing its position within the Central European art scene and aligning it with established gallery weekend formats in neighboring countries.

“Every great city has its gallery weekend, and that moment has arrived for Bratislava,” say the organizers. “We are excited to welcome visitors this weekend and to introduce a format that highlights the strength and diversity of the local gallery community.”

Visitors are encouraged to plan their routes in advance and take full advantage of the walkable format connecting all participating galleries.
