Liminal Figures (2015–2025) brings together three major bodies of work developed by Francesco De Prezzo over the past decade: Null Paintings, Placeholder Sculptures, and Mockup Paintings. Through sculpture, painting, and installation, the book explores the image’s transformative potential, unfolding within a constant tension between the making and unmaking of the artwork, an essential trait of the artist’s practice.

The selected works underscore how the image is never a neutral entity. Instead, through its redefinition, erasure, or disappearance, it operates as an active device within the field of representation, activating dynamics that reconfigure our relationship to the gaze.

In De Prezzo’s work, documentation does not serve as mere archival evidence. Rather, it emerges as a creative gesture, of rewriting, negation, and staging, through which the artwork itself is continually reimagined.
